The victim, a customer at a Bankinter office in Barcelona, received a phone call from the cybercriminal, in which he used the Bankinter Customer Service phone.

The scammer assured the customer that he was a Bankinter employee, and asked for her security credentials under the pretext of solving a technical incident that occurred on the online banking platform. The victim in good faith believed him, when she checked the incoming phone number of the call, and provided all the information requested. As a result, the cybercriminal made a purchase charged to his credit card in the amount of 6,900 euros.

The client was placed in the hands of Palomar Abogados. From there, we initiated a claim process through an out-of-court complaint letter to Bankinter, which resulted in the affected party being able to recover the entirety of the 6,900 euros that had been stolen.
